Okay first off, so happy you’re on Justin’s podcast! I completely agree, there’s this overwhelming urge to connect more where I hadn’t done that before as well. Substack has been a total game changer for me in that area. It’s also prompted me to reach out to fellow local photographers more as well, regardless of the outcome.
Second, I gotta know what anime and manga you were or are still into?
Lastly, I love that you found and have a project that means so much to and has prompted you to create safe spaces and events for the queer community. I’m very familiar with the drag community, I work with the RuPaul and WOW team on the RuPaul mobile games but I’m not as familiar with the drag king community so I will definitely check out your project! Is it on your website?
Speaking with Justin was just what I needed, it gave me a push to be more vocal about things and to start organising better. Substack has also really helped me connect with people and find the time and space to share thoughts that would normally stay in my head. So thank you for being part of this journey as well. <3
I’m still obsessed with Evangelion, ahaha! I have a huge collection of action figures that aren’t displayed (yet) in my flat in London. But anytime I see something Evangelion-related, I really want it! When I was in Japan, I had to control myself, photography gear is already expensive, and adding anime stuff on top of that… ahaha. In the end, I got stickers and keyrings, “functional” items. 😄
The Drag King community is still not very well known, either in Europe or the US, but they’re on the rise (yay!). There’s even going to be a TV competition about Drag Kings soon (I think on the 22nd), and I hope it will help raise awareness. I’m currently reaching out to magazines to pitch my personal projects, but so far, no replies. Thankfully, I’m very stubborn, so I’ll keep going!

Thats crazy, Evangelion is also my favourite! Really anything from Gainax back in their heyday. We probably had a lot of the same figures, I had the entire set of Kaiyodo figures from the mid 2000s I’ve slowly had to part with them over the years because I’ve moved around a lot. I still have some of the Medicom mini figs, they are so cool. You’ll have to photograph them and make a post, haha. What did you think of all the rebuild movies?
